John Eme, Ph.D.
My teaching philosophy is “bridging the knowledge gap between exposure to scientific concepts and the inquiry-based experience necessary to master scientific concepts and the scientific method”. I have taught undergraduate courses at California State University San Marcos, University of California Irvine, and University of West Florida. I taught 7th and 11th grade life science classes at Costa Mesa High School, a primarily low-income and predominately Hispanic community in California, through a National Science Foundation Kindergarten-12th grade grant to UCI (NSF UCI GK-12 Program, http://www.gk12.org/). I have also taught Coral Reef Ecology to undergraduates during summer expeditions to Indonesia.
Currently at CSUSM, I teach our upper division core class in Comparative Physiology and introductory Organismal and Population Biology, as well as upper division electives, such as Human Cardiovascular Physiology, Fish Physiology, and Seminar in Physiology. At CSUSM, I've also taught Human Physiology, Statistics, and General Biology, as well as supervised undergraduate Teaching Assistants.
Undergraduate life science courses and labs at three universities
